Teal Blue and Silver

Whether tied on a double or a tube, the Teal Blue and Silver fly is one of the all time greatest Sea-trout flies. We are very lucky on the Dee that we can catch a lot of Sea-trout during daylight hours as well as at night and can use these tiny flies to great effect. Dressed on tiny doubles or on small tubes for day time then larger tubes for night fishing this has produced the goods when everything else has failed!

The Black Sheep Tube

Used primererly in the springtime on heavy tubes the Black Sheep is a great all rounder, it's Black and Yellow combination is most Definately a winner on the River Dee. This tube is also a great low water fly when dressed sparely on plastic tubes like this one, also it makes a great Hitch fly for some surface action!!

Sunray Shadow Tube

The Sunray Shadow. Of all the flies I tie and fish with, this is in my top 3, whether fishing it conventionally or stripping it like a Madman, I've had huge success with it. I don't think any other method of salmon fishing which is as exciting as stripping a BIG Sunray across a salmon pool, I've seen fish chase this fly right across a pool maybe striking at it 3 times or more, I've also had fish completely jump out of the water as they have taken the fly or even taken it on the way back down!! Whether it's as small as the fly pictured (6mm tube) or has a 6" wing and a 2" tube, you should always have a few sunrays in different sizes in your box.

Black Frances tube

The Black Frances tube fly is a formidable fly, it's popularity in it's home country of Iceland is legendary, of course it is equally at home on any Scottish River and I use it on the Dee all through the springtime, fished slow and deep with a pulsing motion it can produce some of the most amazing takes you will ever have!! Some of my rods who fish in the early spring now fish nothing else except a Black Frances

Silver Stoat

Another exelent all rounder, this fly probably produces more fish in low water summer conditions than any other fly I tie, not only does it catch Salmon but it is also an extremely good Sea-trout fly. Use this during the day but also on larger sizes at night.

Bertie Dastard

The Bertie Dastard was designed by me, it originally had the hair from my terrier BERT in the wing but as it got more popular I had to change it because he was getting bald!! This fly is a must when fishing the Dee its Black & Yellow combination and sparse dressing make it perfect for the Spring on Deeside. Again this fly is a big hit on foreign shores accounting for fish in Norway, Sweden and Russia.

Smith's Shrimp Salar Double.

The Smith's Shrimp Salar Double has now become firm favourite on Deeside, over the past couple of years it has proved itself to be a great fish catcher. It comes into its own from around early to mid April and continues to catch fish all year. It is also now gaining a reputation for catching outside Scotland, it did well in Norway in the summer and in drought conditions in Russia but did particularly well when fished in Iceland last year, even out-fishing one of my all time favourite flies the Red Frances!!
